Napoli to rename the San Paolo stadium after late Diego Maradona

Napoli are set to rename the San Paolo stadium after the late Diego Maradona.

The Argentina football legend, who was the manager of Argentinian club side Gimnasia passed away aged 60 on Wednesday, November 25th, after suffering a cardiac arrest in his home country.

An autopsy report said he died in his sleep after suffering heart failure, only two weeks after leaving the hospital following surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain.

Medics also detected dilated cardiomyopathy, a medical condition in which the heart muscle becomes weakened and enlarged and cannot pump enough blood to the rest of the body.

Maradona, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, was the inspiration for Argentina’s World Cup success in Mexico in 1986, winning the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

He also led the country to the final of the 1990 tournament in Italy although his international playing career ended in shame when he failed a drug test at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

He played club football for Boca Juniors, Napoli, and Barcelona among others, and was adored by millions of fans for his football talent.

During his time with the Italian side, Napoli, he won the Serie A title in 1987 and 1990, along with an Italian Cup in 1987 and a Uefa Cup in 1991 during a six-year stint in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Napoli to rename the San Paolo stadium after late Diego Maradona

Speaking with French sports channel RMC Sport on Thursday, November 26, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said: “We can consider the idea of calling our stadium San Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona’ after the Argentine legend, who scored 115 times in 259 appearances for the club.

“We can consider the idea of calling our stadium San Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona,” De Laurentiis told French sports channel RMC Sport.

“We are already putting it together this morning, taking the first steps to dedicate Naples stadium to Maradona,” De Magistris said.

“Its a process but it will be a quick process, because when there is such a strong desire there’s nothing that will hold us up.”

The Mayor added: “We’re hoping to make it coincide with the resumption of games with fans.”

Shaquille O’neal Just Voted For The First Time

Shaquille O'Neal Unveils Back Black Business Program | Billboard

“I’m honest, I’ve never voted in my life. This is my first time voting.”

That’s Shaquille O’Nealdropping a Shaq-sized bombshell — confessing he’s NEVER voted in an election!

“I’ve never voted before, America,” Shaq said this week on Wednesday on The Big Podcast… “But, now I’m doing all these voting campaigns and ya know one thing I never like to do, is be a hypocrite.”

Yep, the 48-year-old NBA legend says he felt weird pushing voting initiatives like his #MyStartingFive challenge — which helps people register to vote for Election Day 2020 — while sitting on the sidelines.

So, he decided to actually vote this year — by absentee ballot!

“In other words America, I voted for the first time and it feels good.”

Shaq’s co-hosts were in complete shock — especially after Shaq was virtually sitting next to his buddy President Barack Obama, at Game 1 of the NBA Finals — who obviously didn’t get Shaq’s vote back in the day!

Election Day is Nov. 3 — make sure you get out there!!!

Serena Williams Withdraws From 2020 French Open On Day 4 Due To Achilles Injury

Time warning flusters Serena Williams in meek 3-set loss - NBC Sports

Three-time French Open champion, Serena Williams has withdrawn from the 2020 event because of an Achilles injury.

Williams, 39, came into the tournament nursing an Achilles injury she picked up during her semi-final defeat at the US Open earlier this month.

She was scheduled to play her second-round match against Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova on Wednesday, and was aiming to equal Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 before she pulled out from the event.

Williams said in a statement: “After I warmed up – it was a very short warm-up – I talked to my coach and I was like, ‘What do you think?’ We both thought about it and we really realised that it likely wasn’t the best for me to play today.

“I love playing in Paris, I really wanted to give an effort here. My Achilles didn’t have time to properly heal. I’m struggling to walk so that’s kind of a tell-tale sign that I should try to recover.”

Roger Goodell to Peter King: Kaepernick free agency on NFL owners

Colin Kaepernick is back in the NFL — in the Madden ’21 video game … where he’s now a playable QB with a higher rating than Cam Newton and Baker Mayfield.

“Colin Kaepernick is one of the top free agents in football and a starting caliber quarterback,” EA Sports said in a statement.

“Our team at EA Sports along with millions of Madden NFL fans wanted to see him back in the game.”

EA Sports says fans can use Colin as a QB in Franchise Mode — and play with him starting Tuesday, Sept. 8.

We look forward to seeing Colin on Madden NFL teams.

We’re told Colin’s overall raying is an 81 — a number EA says is based on Kap’s “prior on the field performance, combined with our data-driven EA Sports rating simulations.”

The company says the rating takes into account “he has not taken the field since 2016.”

“When Kaepernick was a healthy starting quarterback he was rated 89, 89, 81 overall and known for his strong touchdown-to-interception ratio, mobility, and playoff performances.”

There’s more … Kap also has a signature TD celebration — a raised fist, which players can activate after a score.

EA also notes that Colin is the top-rated free agent QB in their game.

And, with his 81 rating, Kap ranks higher than Derek Carr,  Ryan TannehillJosh Allen and even Kyler Murray.

EA Sports also acknowledges a past issue with Kaepernick involving a song on the Madden ’19 soundtrack in which Kap’s name was edited out. The QB’s people worked with EA Sports — and now both sides say it’s been resolved and it’s all water under the bridge.

Lionel Messi was seen on Monday, September 7 returning to training with Barcelona for the first time since asking to leave the club following his fallout with the board over his future.

Messi had wanted to activate a clause that would allow him opt out of his contract, but the club insisted the time had passed for the clause to be activated and that the player would need to pay the €700m release clause in his contract if another club wanted to sign him this summer.

Following a meeting between his father and the club, the play maker reversed his decision and committed his future to Barcelona, saying he could never go to court against the Spanish giants to secure a move

Naomi Osaka Officially Becomes Highest-Paid Female Athlete Ever At 22

Naomi Osaka Shows No Interest In Increasing Brand Value ...

At 22, Naomi racked up $37 million in earnings in the past year, more than any other female athlete in history, according to Forbes.

That hefty bag from the past 12 months comes from prize money and endorsements, $1.4 million more than Serena earned, setting an all-time earnings record for a female athlete in a single year. Another tennis player, Maria Sharapova, previously held the record with $29.7 million in 2015.

As far as her standing for highest-paid athletes, including men, Naomi ranks No. 29 among Forbes’ highest-paid athletes while Serena ranks No. 33. It’s actually the first time since 2015 that two women have made the ranks of the 100 highest-paid athletes.

“To those outside the tennis world, Osaka is a relatively fresh face with a great back story,” says David Carter, a sports business professor at USC’s Marshall School of Business. “Combine that with being youthful and bicultural, two attributes that help her resonate with younger, global audiences, and the result is the emergence of a global sports marketing icon.”

Topping Serena was no easy feat for Naomi. Serena has been the world’s highest-paid female athlete for the past four years and has collected almost $300 million during her career from endorsers.

Naomi turned pro in 2014, a month before her 16th birthday. She won her first title in March 2018 at Indian Wells and in the 12 months that followed, she became the first Japanese player to win a Slam and the first Asian tennis player ever to be ranked No. 1 in the world.

Naomi held dual citizenship growing up, but chose to represent Japan ahead of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, which has been postponed to 2021.

According to Forbes, tennis remains the only route for women to rank alongside the top-paid male sports stars. Sharapova, Li Na, Serena Williams and now Naomi Osaka are the only women to rank among the 100 top earners in sports since 2012.

The highest-paid female athlete every year since Forbes started tracking the data in 1990 has been a tennis player.

Rudy Gobert — the first NBA player to be diagnosed with coronavirus — is paying it forward to his arena family and surrounding communities with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Utah Jazz star announced Saturday he’d be forking $500k of his money toward the COVID-19 pandemic — divvying up the dough to different groups, but all with the intent to relieve people who are going to be hurt by it the most, like part-timers at the team’s arena.

$200k of Gobert’s pledge will help cover the salaries of part-time employees working at Vivint Smart Home Arena — all of whom were sent home earlier this week after the NBA canceled the remainder of the regular season. The money is in conjunction with efforts already being undertaken by ex-Jazz owner Larry H. Miller‘s sports and entertainment company.

Another couple hundred thousand are being dispersed to help families affected by corona virus in Utah and Oklahoma City. Rudy’s also donating a bunch of euros to help people in his native country of France … which was just recently placed on lock down.

Old video of Tyson Fury’s dad, John, predicting exactly how Fury will beat Wilder resurfaces…and he was spot on

A video has resurfaced showing Tyson Fury’s dad, John Fury, a Heavyweight boxer during his own time, predicting exactly how his son will defeat Deontay Wilder in the MGM Grand Arena clash that happened on Sunday morning.

Old video of Tyson Fury

John Fury, a former Heavyweight boxer was unable to acquire a visa to travel to the United States to watch his son defeat Wilder following an 11-year prison sentence he received in 2011 after being found guilty of gouging out Oathie Sykes’ eye during a brawl at a car auction which left the 44-year-old half-blind.

John served four-and-a-half years of his sentence and was released in 2015 and ever since then hasn’t been granted a visa to go to the US, but in an interview last week predicted exactly how Fury will beat Wilder… and he was spot on…

John Fury who sat alongside boxing icon David Haye, in the BT Sports interview, said that his son could never lose against Wilder and that his son would knockout Wilder and wouldn’t have to depend on the judges to get a fair result.

John constantly blasted anyone who felt Tyson could lose and acted like a ‘bully’ in the conversation with the way he let his voice overlap every other analyst’s own in the conversation.

Fury also said Wilder has never really faced being punched severally before and will badly lose to his son who changed to a new coach for the fight.

John might be Tyson’s dad and is expected to back his son, but the manner of confidence and arrogance with which he used in predicting the victory is worth emulating.

Watch the video below.
